We Plant Trees

Common Vision’s Urban Forestry and Land Stewardship program transforms the urban landscape by planting and caring for fruit trees, food forests, and native habitat gardens, primarily in West Oakland and surrounding areas.

We Plant Trees

At its core, the program operates from the belief that community wellbeing and ecological health are deeply connected. To implement this vision, we are working with the City of Oakland to plant 1000 trees over the next 4 years.

We Plant Trees

By combining urban forestry with community stewardship, we create greener neighborhoods that are healthier, cooler, and more resilient.

Why should we plant trees in Oakland?

The map to the right exemplifies an area where more trees could uplift the West Oakland community.

Impervious surfaces (think asphalt, sidewalks, & roads) cover over 80% of this block. On a hot day, it would feel 20 degrees Fahrenheit hotter compared to a shaded area with tree canopy covering.

Trees provide shade, cooler temperatures on hot days, reduction of air pollution, and habitat for our native wildlife.

This census block covers the Prescott School and surrounding areas. Improving the tree canopy here is one of Common Vision's areas of focus.
